By D. P. Mortlock, with a foreword by The Earl of Leicester. 2006. 56 colour illustrations, many full page. The Roxburghe Club, 2006.
56 colour illustrations, many full page. Pp. xvi, 140. A detailed description and history of one of the world's finest private libraries, much of which was acquired by Thomas Coke, 1st Earl of Leicester (1697-1759) who built Holkham Hall in Norfolk. The family has added to it and sustained it ever since. The core of the collection concentrates on the Renaissance, however a wide variety of interests are represented, for instance there are Sir Edward Coke's 14th century English manuscripts, a remarkable collection of Civil War and Commonwealth pamphlets, some early broadsides of the Virginia Company, and many other treasures.
