The manuscript was compiled in Lisbon in the early seventeenth century for a community of English nuns in exile. In addition to the examination and reproduction of this manuscript, the book contains a remarkable 86 page essay by Christopher de Hamel on the library of medieval manuscripts of Syon Abbey, and their dispersal, which is illustrated by 13 facsimile reproductions of manuscripts.
